:'( mollie has had her puppies 3 boys and 1 girl they arrive a week early but need some advice on the girl. the girl came bum first 2 big pushes and she was out, molly had difficultly delivering the after birth and because she was so uncomfortable we had to take her 2 emergency vets which wasnt our normal vets after taking a look at molly he checked puppies were suckling he place his finger in each of there mouths placed them back in basket and checked molly again, we went to pick puppies up again lifted the little girl and told me her mouth was'nt closing would i like her put to sleep which i refused as early in the day i fed them with  a bottle as molly was uncomfortable and wouldnt settle for pups to fed  her mouth was closed in the day, so i dont know whats happen for her mouth to be opened when he checked was it because he shoved his finger in mouth and it was his index finger as he didnt say anything the first time he checked her. took her to my vets the next day  the little girl was suckling  on molly ive been keeping an eye on here weight and she is gaining weight every day im also feeding by bottle between feds as to give molly a rest as she takes longer than boys to suckle. the vets saids lets she how she gets on. but no one said what it could be. some one says lions jaw? have any of you heard of something like this before.

The clinical name is Craniomandibular osteopathy. It's the development of too much bone on the skull and jaw bone. It starts to develop in a puppy, usually around 4 months of age and by the time a dog is 7 months old, a person is able to tell there's some type of problem with their dog, usually by seeing swelling in the jaw. The condition causes a dog to have trouble eating or not being able to eat at all, trouble opening it's mouth, and will cause excessive drooling. It's a condition for which there is no cure and basically results in pain management. The condition is self limiting and generally corrects itself when a dog is a year old. It is genetic health problem and dogs with this condition should never be used for breeding.

The only way to know for certain if it is Lion Jaw is you have your vet examine her and do xrays to look for the over development of bone..

Here's some sites with some xrays and more detailed information..
